Sorry for the overload of food posts...
I've recently decided to make a few minor changes in my diet and have found so much inspiration from friends and online.
This week I made this veggie broth, which I find to be soothing and tasty as a drink
and the "Gold Wellness Drink" below is a simple blend of lemon, ginger, and turmeric!
One thing I cut out was coffee and these drinks have totally made it possible!
See recipes here.

I'm loving your food posts. Cooking and eating whole foods is one of my favourite things to do.

Can I ask what changes you have decided to make to your diet? I'm always interested in conscious eating and the reasons why people choose to eat the way they do.

Love the gold wellness drink! I love coffee so much, but I went from 5 cups a day to 1. It is probably the hardest thing I had to reduce in my diet. The only exception was my time in Japan they make the best coffee in the world! I really enjoyed your q +a with Metrode.

Your food posts are always welcome! Coffee is one thing I am also struggling with from time to time. Maybe I can cut it out some day too.

well, i am not cutting it out completely... Just not every single day at home. I'll enjoy some on the weekend if we go for a walk or something, but just not making it at home is a huge step for me! I was the type of person that could have one in the morning and one in the afternoon!

Belinda- yes! of course... i had two things influence my diet, one was an awful stomach flu. when i got over it only craved the simplest, whole foods (like steamed veggies, plain grains, and legumes- things that my body knew were real food, which made me kind of think "duh, this is probably what your body really needs" i guess just realized it's not necessary to over complicate things (which is tempting because I love cooking so much)... And the other thing that has influenced me is my mother, who gave up sugar and flour two years ago. Her life has changed so dramatically (she lost close to 80 pounds and now has the energy and positivity of a college student) that it's definitely made an impression on me. I am turning 30 this year and have just realized I can't eat everything I want anymore...

Long story short:
I've decided to cut out caffeine, sugar (except from fruit- which I always eat alone, usually as early morning breakfast), and most flour (although I will have rye cracker or whole oats early on in day sometimes), and dairy and meat I've decided only to use occasionally as flavoring (tip from Michael Pollan's book), oh and steam and roast veggies as much as possible!!

Interesting that your body just craved whole, fresh foods. It really was like it knew what it needed.

I've been on a very similar diet to yours for about 18 months now (recommended by a chinese herbalist for some chronic health issues) and I feel so much better. I hope you do too.

I agree about the 30 thing - I am 32 now and I used to be able to eat a packet of Tim Tams every day and I would hardly notice it. Not anymore!
