Last night I went over to France's house and she was harvesting the lavender from her yard. She told me the best way to do it was to put them in an old pillow case and bang it against something hard. I love that idea, can't wait to try it myself.

ahhh that sounds so nice! i heard the other day that in provence when the lavender fields are blooming, they dry their sheets over the fields in the sun so that they become naturally nicely scented by the lavender!
I'm assuming this is after they have been dried, for how how long? I want to try this.
gail, yes... after they are dried you do this. i think you just beat it until most of the seeds fall off and then probably run your hand along the stem to get the rest off.
what do you do with the lavender after that? my mother in law has HEAPS of lavender and I want to do something with it.
