WU YONG WU YONG WU YONG
Last week I had the opportunity to meet Ma Ke of Wu Yong (Useless)! She contacted me because she was in San Francisco for the Arts of Fashion Event at the MOMA. She came to see my workspace and look at my work to perhaps collaborate in the future. AND GUESS WHAT? She is now the proud owner of my Puppekleid, the dress I made for fashion week!
I finally had a chance to see the film, Useless by director Jia Zhang-Ke which was a very emotional and moving film about China's garment industry and people whose lives it effects. She also gave a lecture at the MOMA and showed the footage from her most recent collection that debuted during Paris haute couture week this July. So beautiful... she created more of an experience than a fashion show. It was held in a garden where "everyone had front row seats" and the performance artists or "models" were accompanied by a woman singing a Tibetan prayer song, an indigo dyer slowly dyeing yardage, and a weaver clacking her loom. The overall effect was so beautiful there were no words. Thank you Ma Ke :)
