AUGUST
Last night Molly and I went to an art show at a store in Oakland called August. Turns out the artist Emily Ann Nachison, works at Peace Industry, one of my biggest inspirations ever! Oh how small the world really is. I love her needle-felted bear head.

THE REDWOOODS
Morning hike in Muir Woods. So quiet. Made me want to be a fairy.

Monday

SHAREEN DOWNTOWN
This is the coolest vintage warehouse around! The third Saturday of every month Shareen opens her warehouse and sells her pieces to the public for cheaper than she normally would. Reworked pieces (usually sold in fancy shops like Fred Segal and Milk) are sold for half off and the racks of regular vintage are sold for a reasonable amount. There is also a $1-$3 pile that was actually pretty good and everything is very smartly organized. There are girls stripping down in every corner trying things on and some even "dressed" for the occasion in cute matchy matchy undergarments..... ughhh. My favorite thing : the snack table for "tired" shoppers (bazooka gum, brownies, snack bars, candy, and miniature water bottles)

APRIKOSENKNAEDEL
These are dumplings with apricots hiding inside. They are my favorite German treat and can only be eaten once a year :( Basically you make a potatoe dough (2-3 smashed potatoes, 2 eggs, water, flour, salt), wrap dough around individual apricots, boil, then fry with European butter and breadcrumbs and sprinkle with ground almonds and sugar. Good anytime.
REVIVAL, REVIVAL
I needed a little "revival" of my own this weekend and am so glad to have escaped from work for a few days. We found this cool little shop on a back road in Silverlake and I bought a mod plastic lamp there.

MITTAGSESSEN
I made some Kaesespaetzle for lunch. It's basically a tastier healthier version of mac-n-cheese. Here is the recipe if you have a spaetzle maker: 2 eggs, 4-5 cups flour, 1 cup water, salt to taste. Mix until sticky for spaetzle dough, boil water, use maker to make spaetzle. Fry 2 chopped white onions and grate any good white cheese. Mix together and garnish with fresh scallions.
DOGGY STYLE
Here are a few photos I took while walking my dog Sampson :)

ALPINE VILLAGE
Visiting Alpine Village has been a family tradition since I was little. It's a small German marketplace built in the 50's by Germans looking for something close to home after relocating post WWII. The wurscht and aufschnitt is immer noch lecker, and the Apotheke still has a fabulous cream selection.

Holmegaard gulve vases.

Lately I have been pondering the idea of starting my own company of smart toy design. I work at a preschool and cringe at every neon plastic, primary colored, Play School hunk-of-junk I see. I found this lovely wooden monkey by Kaj Bojesen from Denmark circa 1956 on one of my favorite vintage Scandinavian sites Retro Home. Not to worry though... there is hope. I wish my school could afford to replenish our rooms with stuff from Kid O.

I usually cannot stand any kind of perfume whatsoever, but there is something about this perfume that makes me feel crazy. It was designed for some posh hotel in Paris which is kind of strange and it is extremely expensive, but I am in love with it. It also has a really great glass bottle applicator that feels really good to hold.

Friday

YASUO NAKAJIMA
Molly just scored these AMAZING plant-dyed Indigo fabrics by master-dyer Yasou Nakajima, founder of Tsurukichi Indigo, one of the last remaining Indigo compounds in Kyoto, Japan. The smell is enough to make you crazy... not to mention the beautiful prints. You can purchase yardage at Ambatalia, call and we'll send you some!

KARUIZAWA, JAPAN

I love this futuristic 'cabin' designed by Japanese architect Makoto Yamaguchi. The kitchen and bath are both sunken below floor level... so cooool!

This is a fabric book I have been creating but haven't had much time to write in. I used vintage hankies my mom picked up at some flea market and sweet Dutch decals from Ambatalia.

I love Swedish anything. Especially these awesome bands and their rockin' cover art. I have just discovered all these amazing blogs and feel so inspired by their colors and photos that I have decided to update my blog . I suppose I want to use this blog more as an inspiration palette... beautiful and interesting things that inspire me.
