 This article got me thinking...
So thought I would share a taste of what reality can look like at my house sometimes.
I mean, no one really thinks I eat organic vegetables and hormone free meat everyday, right?
I don't.

The messiness is refreshing. But not eating organic vegetables or responsible meat.. well, you should definitely do that everyday.

I knew it ! You don't only eat quinoa and you've got untidy corners in your apartment, I feel relieved :)

Yeah, maybe that wasn't the best example, but the truth is I don't... I eat shitty Mexcian food sometimes and am not a nazi about it when I eat out. My point was, I don't live this "precious" little life I portray on my blog. It's just a representation of the moments I find special and am compelled to share.

Actually your comment about only eating "beautiful food" made me laugh, thinking, "Oh if they only KNEW!" lol

oh it's so fun to see the other side of perfect world. Just a great idea!

My apartment isn't as tidy as it appears on my pictures either and I sometimes do have shitty food too ! If we did not filter informations our blogs probably would look slightly different ;) But that is what blogging is good for : making a selection of "relevant" things. That's pretty philosophical, enough for tonight !

Your dresser makes me feel infinitely better about mine! I felt like I was the only one with helter-skelter drawers and a worn once but not quite dirty pile of clothes on top!

... no, I never had illusions - to me, your blog has always represented healthy intentions and effort, which is why I've been following for so long. *blog love!*

I think it's down to one own intelligence...I mean, no one is perfect, of course we all have messy homes and busy life and everyday problems to solve. I don't compare myself to other bloggers, I tend to avoid too popular lifestyle blogs and I don't expect people tell always the true :)

haha but even your mess looks beautiful

i read the article the other day. there were some things about it that made me think too. especially about the author's intentions. found it too sarcastic for my taste. your mess is beautiful as any human mess could be. art and beauty can also be found everywhere. thanks for sharing.

If anything, I think this is more intimidating than a super-styled photo: even your mess is lovely (and well-lit).

glad your guys could appreciate, just wanted to show my house is a huge mess 80 percent of the time!

That article was thought-provoking but too simplistic/one-sided in my opinion. I don't think criticizing women for their choices is very pro-feminist. Everyone deserves a voice, even if they're privileged. I would hope that people would be wise enough to know that just because someone has money, a lovely home, nice clothes, or eats well, doesn't mean they have a perfect life. I was contacted to be interviewed for the article, and I opted not to do it. I'm glad because the article was pretty snarky. I liked your quotes, and I think it's a worthwhile topic to contemplate. However, I hope people remember that there are two sides to every story and that blogs can be wonderful too. They can be a powerful source of connection between people. I know I started my blog as a way to share my creative interests with others at a time when I couldn't find anyone who was into the same stuff as me. Sometimes feelings of jealousy and hatred say more about the person reading the blog (including me because I get feelings of jealousy too) than about the blog author. Just because some blogs arouse jealousy doesn't make them "wrong". Everyone is struggling and searching for connection and special moments of happiness, and we try to share the things that make us feel that, as inadequate as that expression can be at times.

This is the first time I've left a comment on a blog, ever. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for this post :)

ashley said...

Yeah, I totally agree with you Jenny about feeling of jealousy and anger saying more about the person reading the blog, rather than actual blogger. And also that blogs are an incredible way to connect with people... I think since I don't write a whole lot about my life on this blog, it may be easy for people to think life's a peach for me and all I do is play Suzy homemaker, so with this post I was just trying to say... That's not the case, I have problems and shit to deal with, I just happen to use this blog to highlight all my special moments of happiness, as you said.

Hey Ashley—thanks for making my day with this post, it definitely made me smile. Reading the comments on it was also, for the most part, rewarding. And yes, the final article was rather sarcastic and negative—unfortunately, that was the choice of the editors of the publication, and not at all my intention. Healthy debate and critique is one thing, snarky jabs for the sake of ...well whatever their agenda was...not sure how much that does to add to any discussion.

I, for one, did kind of your life as being outrageously peaceful and pretty damn near perfect. I breathed a sigh of relief when I read this and thought 'ok cool, It's not just me who doesn't have all their shit together all the time'. I think it's important to realize that blogs are just one aspect of most people's (complex) lives, whch can be hard to do at times when it would seem from the outside that their lives are all candlelit dinners and pretty dresses. Really though, thanks for posting this.

shitty Mexican food?

ashley said...

i guess i was referring to "non-organic and hormone free", most of the time it isn't unless it's like chipotle or something... but i prefer the real deal, which is not always super healthy :)
